The Phoenix Zoo is proud to embark on the creation of a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital designed to elevate animal healthcare and inspire future wildlife professionals. This new medical center replaces the Joyce Corrigan Animal Care Center, which has served the zoo since 1970. This transformative project, developed in collaboration with Phoenix Zoo staff and WDM Architects, reflects the Phoenix Zoo’s commitment to innovation in animal care. Following an intensive onsite design workshop to refine program needs and site concepts, the project is now in the construction document phase, with completion on the horizon.
Innovative Spaces for Exceptional Care. The new Veterinary Medical Center is being built to support the Zoo’s commitment to excellence in animal health and conservation, equipped with cutting-edge medical technology and spaces tailored to the diverse needs of species ranging from reptiles to tigers. The first floor of the facility is dedicated to animal care, featuring treatment rooms, surgery suites, radiology and CT scanning, an ICU, laboratory, pharmacy, and specialized animal holding areas. A secure sally port streamlines safe animal transport. The second floor houses offices, meeting rooms, and training spaces to support research, collaboration, and education.
Connecting Guests with Veterinary Science. Guests will gain a deeper appreciation for veterinary science through educational indoor viewing windows and digital screens showcasing real-time procedures. The facility also includes classrooms and collaborative spaces to inspire and train the next generation of wildlife veterinarians.
The Phoenix Zoo Veterinary Hospital stands as a testament to the Zoo’s dedication to providing world-class animal care and engaging the community in its mission to protect and preserve wildlife.
