About the Project
WDM collaborated closely with the Phoenix Zoo team in design charettes to conceptualize and plan their new outdoor amphitheater. This exciting project encompasses not only the main stage area but also green rooms for performers. Given the harsh desert climate, our primary focus was to integrate overhead shade structures to shield the audience from the scorching sun. Our shade canopies were carefully crafted to strike a balance between air circulation and natural lighting while offering protection from direct sunlight. Beyond the amphitheater itself, our scope extended to enhancing the surrounding areas. We developed adjacent spaces that now feature sidewalks, outdoor patio and plaza spaces, a service road, and a convenient covered stroller parking area.
