About the Project
The National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR), located in a three-story building on the campus of Wichita State University, was in need of a collaborative engineering design studio for the Crash Dynamics and Computational Mechanics Laboratory. WDM Architects converted part of the third-floor office space into an open-plan design studio, providing a collaborative workspace for 40 engineers. Three small “pods” with glass partitions provide a quiet place for collaboration, video conferencing or taking a phone call. A new lounge with soft seating, personal storage lockers and a kitchenette is visually connected to the studio by a sweeping glass partition.
