About The Project
In May 2014, Botanica was gifted the merry–go–round that was once part of Joyland, and it needed a new home. WDM designed a bright and airy Pavilion adjacent to the popular Downing Children’s Garden. Along with room for the carousel, the Pavilion features a rentable room for events. Through the design process for the Carousel Pavilion, WDM Architects discovered Botanica had a need for park master planning.
Master plan features include:
- Grand Lawn amphitheater for 2500-3000 guests with event stage
- “The Koch Carousel Gardens” around the pavilion with artful interpretive, interactive water features and play house
- Giant Sleeping Troll sliding hill
- A new Grand Entry for Botanica on the south side of the park for easier access to the park entry and adequate parking
- Parking expanded and close to new entry
