Church Architecture

Ascension Lutheran Church Expansion

About the Project

Ascension Lutheran Church was experiencing growing pains at their West Maple campus, which serves as a church and a daycare facility. The church needed more dedicated space for Sunday School education space apart from daycare areas.

Church leadership reached out to WDM in 2017, and work began with the church building committee to develop a design for a building addition that would accommodate their additional space needs. The result was a 5,100-square-foot addition, which includes a multi-purpose room, kitchen, pastor’s office, and men’s and women’s restrooms.

The multi-purpose room was designed as a flexible space that can serve as a gathering space for fellowship and larger events or subdivided with movable partitions to create three smaller classrooms. The interior design scheme and color palette set it apart from the daycare spaces in the existing building so as to give it a unique character, while the exterior masonry façade blends in with the original structure. The building was completed in January 2021, well ahead of schedule.
