Johan Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) is credited as being the first to say “Architecture is Frozen Music.” In that way, we at WDM Architects are like players in a band, traveling around creating places and architecture that can be thought of as “Frozen Music.” And only good frozen music comes from WDM.

We believe in what we do. One day we may be playing…um designing for a small zoo (venue if you will) in the Midwest or the South. The next trip may find us in a large venue in California or New England. As Dan Fogelberg said, “The audience is heavenly, but the traveling is…" well, you the client make it worth while.

Our band of designers never loses sight of why we are out there…to create places and architecture that inspire loving stewardship for the natural world.

Entry Complex — Lion Exhibit

“To establish a reserve of 300, 500, 1,000 or 1,200 acres and put a fence around it is only doing a very small portion of the job of conservation. We must use the land to show people what the desert really is; to create an awareness and appreciation for the desert plants, animals, and landscape. We must use some of our resources, both physical and financial, for active conservation programs including breeding endangered species and protecting wild habitat.”

Pride of the Plains

“This Pride of the Plains exhibit is truly a world-class African savanna exhibit. This is how it should be; this is how it is at home.”
